Crystalium - _Doxa O Revelation_
(Aura Mystique, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (8 out of 10)
Crystalium return with their fourth opus of blazing black metal, and in typical Gallic fashion, they expand upon the traditional black metal sound without stepping beyond its narrow confines.

They share a drummer with the more well-known Arkhon Infaustus, and whilst both entities possess their distinct sound, they are brothers in their invocation of inexorable blasting. In the hands of a lesser band, this could result in ennui inducing numbers, but Crystalium imbue their blackened dervish with comparatively intricate guitar work and song structures. Should their blasting generate a build-up of tension, this is alleviated through an unexpected lead; and as is typical for the Gallic legions, they imbue their offence against Christianity with a shade of melancholy. Several atmospheric interludes are present, but have little impact to their blackened onslaught, and are fairly weak compared to their real songs -- almost as if they were merely an afterthought. Not that it really matters, as their true songs are another nail in the cross of black metal.
