Aeon - _Rise to Dominate_
(Metal Blade, 2007)

Getting a glowing endorsement off one of your peers isn't necessarily a sure-fire guarantee that you're headed down the three-lane highway of success, but it certainly helps. Take Aeon, five lads from the boothills of Sweden who could quite easily have been just another death metal casualty, but who have most certainly benefited greatly from Cannibal Corpse's Alex Webster evangelizing their prowess in interviews and to his bosses at Metal Blade. As it happens, "evangelize" turns out to be a rather ironic choice of word, as this quintet very quickly and with gusto make clear their dislike for all things godly. Thankfully, their vitriol is soundtracked by an impressive blend of menacing chops, pummelling blasts and a smorgasbord of hooks that are lethal enough to separate your head from your body within minutes. The likes of "Spreading the Disease" and the square-shooting "You Pray to Nothing" aren't about to unseat any of the death metal elite anytime soon; but such is the thrust of Aeon's uncompromising pummel that it's hard not to agree with old man Alex for the most part.
