"Thrash is back!", snarls Norwalk, California's Fueled by Fire, fingerless glove-adorned fists defiantly in the air; and you'd do well to take heed. With the torrential outpour of purposefully retro titles hitting shelves in recent months, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that record label higher-ups banded together in a sinister plot to decide that old-school thrash would be the next big thing. Conspiracy theories aside, Fueled by Fire make no bones of their desire to wallow in nostalgia, and they don't do a bad job of making us feel the thrash-tastic love either. Blessed with a gloriously lo-fi production, songs like "Metal Forever" and "Command of the Beast" provide cheap thrills almost as often as they steal ideas from the Alex Skolnick book of riffs. Still, I'd happily wager that in five years from now _Spread the Fire_ will lie snugly alongside the rest of the Flotsam & Jetsam back catalogue in bargain bins the world over.
