Of the few exceptions, the grinding malice of "Spirit Dressed in Black" provides the most vivid and enjoyable antithesis to this comparison. But eight albums into a career birthed almost two decades ago, you'd have thought that the band had enough creative fuel in the tank to provide us with more than just a few bright moments on a record that for all intents and purposes is as disposable as yesterday's newspaper.
