Sometimes bands have a serious originality deficit. Well, not sometimes --this is rather common, especially when a band is still relatively young and still finding their sound, which often only emerges after the third release. But this can be mitigated by just doing what they do damn well with a heavy dose of passion. Such is the case with Pale Divine, who produce traditional doom not unlike Candlemass or Saint Vitus, but with a more overt nod to the masters (Black Sabbath, of course!).The vocals tend to sound a bit detached from the music, and would benefit from some extra training, as a wider range would enhance their songs. This is currently mitigated by their bone crushing riffs though, which do not suffer from any shortage of catchy hooks. It may not quite be a divine piece of work, but it does leave many of its contemporaries in the pale. (My apologies.)
