Although the phrase "death metal from Sweden" may cause groans in expectation of another addition to the clone legions of melodeath, rest assured that My Own Grave is death metal old-school style, with nary a care for extrinsic niceties such as melody. Given their land of origin, I had high expectations of professionalism and originality, a standard which they not only meet but surpass. But other than taking care to separate My Own Grave from their melodic brethren, there's nothing much else that needs to be said -- not in the sense I am tongue tied (perish the thought), but in the sense there is nothing unexpected here.

Their rendition of uncompromising '90s tinged death metal, replete with ferocious grunts, is note perfect, speedy, vicious and over all too quickly. (Five songs in just over fifteen minutes!) Not original, not even close, but with riffs that hit you with the subtlety of a kick to the balls, how can it be ignored? All lovers of quality, uncompromising death metal would be well advised to have a listen to this short EP (add half a point to the rating above if the pathetically short length is not a problem for you).
