Muerte Villa - _La Conquista_
(Negativity Records, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (5.5 out of 10)
The freshness of death metal with Spanish lyrics started and ended with Brujeria, so that alone won't sustain any album. Yet that seems to be the sole novelty on offer here, as Texans Muerte Villa headbang their way through death metal's more primitive and brutal strain, not stopping to provide anything in the way of originality or innovation. This alone would not be a bad thing, if it were a particularly potent version, but the songs progress in a manner that even the proverbial blind man could see coming from a mile away -- they may not speak any English, but are certainly conversant in cliché. One is left with a feeling that this has all been heard before; and in a way, it has been. Nice cover art, though.
