Misleading, but also irrelevant, as either way this is fairly impressive doom debut. Amber Tears utilise a template of performing sublimely melancholic leads with deceptive ease over downtuned doom riffage, complemented by synths in the right places -- not too far removed from mid-era Anathema, and likely to appeal to fans of the same. Despite its overwhelmingly melancholic tone, there is an edge of upliftment, as if to suggest that there is hope and not just ceaseless despair. It's a wise choice, as this helps them to stand out from their compatriots who are desperately attempting to out-doom one another.

The drums do tend to sound a bit hollow, and clean vocals would probably suit their musical style better, but on the whole it remains a welcome entrant by a band that is sure to receive much exposure in the West -- even if the album is called _Revelation of Renounced_.
