Syron Vanes - _Property of..._
(Record Heaven, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (5 out of 10)
Syron Vanes arose out of the NWOBHM scene, releasing their debut album _Bringer of Evil_ in 1984, which sold 100,000 copies. Their sophomore effort appeared two years later, in 1986, and was followed by their third effort... in 2003!I doubt this differs substantially from their Eighties heyday; it certainly sounds as if the intervening advent and rise of grunge, nu-metal, death and black metal has had absolutely no effect on their distinctly dated hard rock ditties. This includes a similar respect for women: the cover features a camel-toed young woman to the right of the album title with "SV" branded onto her rear.Nor is the album particularly highbrow; "Wild" is nothing more than a paean to casual sex, "Higher" is an ode to rock 'n' roll, while "Forbidden" is a love song to... well, the forbidden pleasure of marijuana. But Syron Vanes aren't pretending to be anything other than a good time party band, and selling a 100,000 copies of your debut album is impressive to all but Sony executives. Those days have long since gone, however. Their cock rock might find an outlet with those high-school days consisted of a blur of beer, drugs and pussy; but for those born after the era, this will be a monument to all that was wrong with the Eighties.
