_Beyond Good and Evil_'s sole strength is the crusty guitar tone, which lends the album a deliciously sleazy air, but is insufficient to disguise the overwhelming monotony -- whether it be the vocalist's narcoleptic non-variance, the invariable drum patterns or the uninspired riffs.

If only the album was an interesting as the collage within the booklet, displaying airplanes mutated into penises crashing into skyscrapers, against the background of crows and Saturn, as people plunge to their death into a field populated by phallus-shaped mushrooms. I wonder if this rather unique artwork was originally meant to be the cover instead of the current picture of a dour-faced man wielding a cross -- I imagine it is linked to the opener "Living Dead at the Trade Center Morgue". Pity this slightly absurd creativity didn't extend to the actual songs.
