Ajdath - _Triangle of Death_
(Mute Records, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Ajdath is apparently the place cited in the Q'ran as the graveyard from whence the dead shall rise. An apt name, not only implying ferocious death metal, but also a reference to their Arabic origins. Omar Kilani (vocals / guitar / bass), originally from Jordan, has relocated to Poland, where in an eerie evocation of their namesake, the band was reborn with new members on drums and additional guitars.

Performing death metal with both old-school and technical elements, Ajdath weave a sonic tapestry that also borrows from thrash. They incorporate some subtle and understated Arabic melodies as well, which come to the fore on an obligatory calm instrumental, "Before the War". The drums sound particularly murky and would have benefited from increased clarity, but the guitars and vox possess sufficient venom to ensure a place in the limited, but growing, Mideast metal pantheon -- as well as a place in the CD racks of all with a love for unforgiving death metal.
