Even Vast - _Teach Me How to Bleed_
(My Kingdom Music, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 10)
I do not have an issue with gothic rock per se (to call this metal would be to stretch the concept to breaking point), but when it's dished up in such a lightweight and fluffy package like this -- so fluffy that any pretence at darkness seems laughable -- then it is beyond redemption.

The seductive female vocals are the album's strong point, but with so many other bands adopting the same mix of goth, metal and female vocals, much more is needed than a good set of lungs. Nor does the cover of a well-loved classic help. Their interpretation of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" manages to remove the cloak of darkness of the original, rendering it closer to the Eurodance remixes of rock classics rather than the original's haunting atmosphere. Ian is not so much turning as spinning in his grave at this heresy.

This is only recommended for those who regard the last couple of Theatre of Tragedy albums as the best albums ever. Anyone else is encouraged to give this a wide berth.
