Malveillance - _Just Fuck Off_
(Suffering Jesus Productions, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (6 out of 10)
Quebecois Malveillance are one of the few entrants to the punkish black (or is it blackened punk?) outside of the hypernationalists. Performing 22 songs in 37 minutes does not allow much time for niceties such as song development, and consequently they consist of little more than a couple of simple punkish riffs cobbled together, alongside some rather repetitive drumming and some above average screams. Only the presence of an occasional lead provides some variety. Whilst I initially nodded along with the songs, all the ideas are exhausted well before the album's end, and in the absence of the feral hypnotism of an Ildjarn, the album quickly loses entertainment value. Malveillance's style is much better suited for an EP, and eight or so highlights would have been sufficient, but 37 minutes is simply far too long.
