Nothing wrong with a dose of bone-crushingly brutal death metal. Vicious guitars, low-pitched vocals and frantic blasting infused with bursts of aggression make for an intoxicating mix -- more intoxicating than a cocktail of moonshine and absinthe. But like any drug, one eventually needs more of it in order to achieve that same high. This is as applicable to music as it is to illicit pleasures -- not in the sense of needing more, but in the sense that one becomes more critical and demands that bands display something that will enable them to stand out from the long-haired, denim clad legions. And while this Hellenic project perform death metal that ranks highly on the brutality scale, there is little that is even remotely innovative. The sound is a bit rawer and more primitive than is the norm, but hardly exceptional. (The snare drum has a hollow quality that ails far too many low production jobs.) This will definitely find many fans, but it is a moot point as to how long they will be able to sustain attention until the next band of this ilk surfaces.
