Pofony - _Cure of Another Kind_
(Independent, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Some of my less kind leatherclad colleagues might sneeringly suggest that the only way that metalcore can be distributed is by literally giving it away for free. This is of course expected, and metalcore fans needn't and wouldn't take note of the derision poured upon metalcore by less visible genres. The question though, is whether by making their independent debut full-length available for download in its entirety through their website, complete with artwork and lyrics, Pofony are tactfully admitting that their music is, well, considerably less than stellar.

The answer is "not really". This is far from being a gobsmackingly brilliant album, but neither are they scraping the bottom of the barrel. The vocalist would be advised to stay away from the clean vocals, which sound rather thin and flat, but otherwise this is a rather standard excursion through the belly of the metalcore beast. Still, it is for free. Download a song or two and give it a go.
