Foundation Hope - _The Faded Reveries_
(Cold Meat Industry, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (8 out of 10)
Foundation Hope are one the new signees to Cold Meat Industry and were showcased alongside other neophytes on the _All My Dead Friends_ compilation. _The Faded Reveries_ is their sophomore effort, having released their debut earlier in 2006 on Divine Comedy Records. Foundation Hope do not depart too far from what I have come to expect -- nay, demand -- from Cold Meat ambient acts: a dark and dismal atmosphere, interspersed with spiritual elements.

Interestingly and somewhat enigmatically, they are described as having a "cinematic" approach. Perhaps this is a reference to the synth strings, which are absolutely sublime (a string quartet would have been better, but one has to be realistic) and which are effective in creating the obligatory gloomy atmosphere. The earlier mentioned spiritual elements consist of occasional chanting, which adds humaneness to a sound that risks becoming coldly sterile. This may not be as dark as Atrium Carceri or Letum, but they still create a suitably bleak ambience capable of raising the hairs on the back of the proverbial neck.
