Based on my extremely limited exposure to Indian metal, this is India's most well-known extreme metal band. This is their sophomore effort, and they are now a proper band, having originated as the one-man project of The Demonstealer. Some death, a touch of black, a healthy dose of melody and a bit of thrash (the album is after all, called _A Darkness Descends_...) pretty much sums up this record. However, Demonic Resurrection are at their demented bets when they toss a bit of power metal into the mix. This is especially noticeable on "Apocalyptic Dawn", an accessible and melodic yet aggressive song that must surely be the crowd pleaser at their live performances. If it isn't, than that honour must surely fall upon "Frozen Portrait", which bravely yet effectively starts as a rock ballad. If the quality of these two songs could be sustained over the duration of the album, _ADD_ might just be a truly great album. But the quality is not uniform throughout -- just take "Dreams of the Dead" as an example, which is permeated with a cheesy Filth-esque organ. Overall, a rather patchy release, but not one that is without great promise.
