Forgot - _Burning Down_
(Propaganda, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (8 out of 10)
_Burning Down_ was originally recorded in 2001, and like compatriots Painful Memories, this is not so essential that a re-release was demanded, but I am nonetheless glad it was. Forgot is the creation of one Wizard who focuses on constructing a despairing atmosphere much like the legendary Mütiilation. However, it doesn't quite live up to the high standard set by _Vampires of Black Imperial Blood_. This is not to say it is not worth a spin -- it is in fact worth a great many spins, but it is also a reflection of wasted potential: this could have been truly great, rather than merely good. The use of a drum machine is to be regretted, and although it may have been a necessity at the time in 2001, black metal has exploded in Russia such that finding a drummer is not the impossible task it would once have been. The production is clearer than that preferred by the necrotic hordes, but the other elements (shrieked vocals , blasting drums, simplistic riffage)are all present. A fine debut; and time for Forgot, who is allegedly still active, to record another full-length.
