Over the course of seven songs, Theriomorphic present an interpretation of death metal that is dynamic, punchy and nearly uniformly ferocious -- the token arpeggios really do little to mitigate their potency. An acceptable production means that their true worth is not compromised by bathroom aesthetics. They are not the most original of bands, but they do what they do with such conviction and vigour that I really couldn't care less. Theriomorphic must be a killer live act, but one department which they could improve is the layout: the band photo looks more like a troupe of blackface comedians from the 1920s than escapees from Hades.

This was the first CD to land in my post-box in the new year and consequently was the first new music I heard this year. There are worse ways to start the new year.
