Zoat-Aon - _The Triplex Bestial_
(Aural Hypnox, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (8.5 out of 10)
The Helixes collective (centred around the Aural Hypnox label and consisting of Aeoga, Arktau Eos, I. Corax, Halo Manash and, of course, Zoat-Aon) must surely rank as one of the most impressive discoveries in the past year. This is only the seventh release form this tiny Finnish label, but they resolutely refuse to disappoint. There are strong similarities in sound between the other projects (I strongly suspect that there are more projects than members; but then look at what a group of teenagers in Norway achieved over a decade ago).

As with all other Aural Hypnox releases, the packaging is an integral part of the experience, and great care is taken to produce packaging that is unique with a strong handmade touch. _The Triplex Bestial_ is no exception, arriving in a beautiful oversized four-panel cardboard cover.

Zoat-Aon is the project of one Jaakko Vanhala, who is ably assisted by several guests, including Antti Litmanen, who provides singing bowls on "MaUrMa". Other guests provide piano (boring!) and human skull drums (now that sounds interesting!). As with all Aural Hypnox releases, there is a strong ritualistic and mystic flavour present, a world which beckons to and irresistibly draws in the listener; a dark and gloomy realm, but a world open to the possibilities of exploring dimensions unknown.

Incontrovertible proof that Zoat-Aon can take on the big boys at their own game.
