Anyone familiar with black metal will not be surprised by Grimfaug's patter; elementary _Transilvanian Hunger_ inspired riffage and rasps, which have been done innumerable times ever since that seminal album first emerged. Nor do Grimfaug offer anything particularly novel to a field saturated with grim-faced hordes performing minor variations on the same theme. Yet despite the factors stacked against the dastardly duo, they are still able to provide a reasonably entertaining exploration of the rawer side of black metal. Album closer "Apocalypse..." is not as tired as its title suggests, and the slower pace is one of the few deviations from their Darkthrone worship.

It is debatable how long Grimfaug will be able to keep churning them out (this is their sophomore release) and it is also debatable how long they will be able to hold the listener's attention. In all likelihood, only until the next slab of Darkthrone worship. But this will do nicely for now.
