Real recognizes real and talent begets talent -- or something along those lines. Either way, it's clear that Anders Jakobsson's return to the harsh void was always destined to be much more than second-rate, and though essentially born out of tragedy, the former Nasum-ite's new project is hardly melancholy. The album's opening gambit reverberates with a similar energy to latter-day Napalm Death, while elsewhere songs like "Return to Ashes" explore similarly eerie soundscapes to those you'd hear on any one of Immolation's releases. This is death metal at its most caustic -- crisply produced and completely relentless in its onslaught. True, it may not possess the same level of artistic depth that has gone on to make albums like _Close to a World Below_ or _Black Seeds of Vengeance_ nigh on timeless, but Coldworker cross the line in style by virtue of their sheer class as musicians.
