Perhaps the dour mood which they would presumably have adopted as a gothic metal band proved to be too much for them to sustain, as I have rarely heard an album this upbeat outside of power metal; Old Man’s Child circa _Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion_ and early Children of Bodom are probably the closest. Not that this is a negative -- these barbarians stay far away from the cheese factor and their buoyant melodies suit their brand of odes to Odin. But unlike most of their Mjolnir bearing brethren, God sound more like Manowar than Manegarm, due largely to their use of heavy metal melodies and shouted choruses. This is especially apparent on a different version of "Riders from Hell", which in addition to the cavernous rumblings of a motorbike, features palpably heavy metal vocals.

An entertaining listen, and while this may not elevate them to the pantheon of Viking (or heavy for that matter) greats, it is a pleasurable enough listen.
