Neun Welten - _Vergessene Pfade_
(Auerbach Tonträger / Prophecy, 2006)
by: Pedro Azevedo (6.5 out of 10)
Recorded in Klangschmiede Studio E with Markus Stock of Empyrium fame, _Vergessene Pfade_ ("Forgotten Paths") looks to take the listener back in time, to forests shrouded in oblivion and filled with the scents of Spring and Summer. No, this is certainly not melancholic, misty forest type music: the acoustic guitar, flute, violin and percussion that Neun Welten employ, among other elements, have a distinctly optimistic vibe to them. The progressive folk compositions flow well, but somewhere between the music's almost unfailingly sunny disposition and the lack of any vocals on most tracks, _Vergessene Pfade_ begins to falter. There is usually some clever passage to help it recover and last a while longer, but overall _Vergessene Pfade_ still elicits little more than passing curiosity from me -- though others may find it more to their taste, as musically it is a commendable effort.
