At least the wait has been worthwhile. _Metamorphyses_ may not be nearly as accessible as _Reflections From the Time of Opening_, nor as simplistic, but that can in no way mean that it is inferior.

There is a lot less focus on rhythm, with attention directed towards creating textures through a collage of scraping metal, drones, chains and trickling water. Be warned: anyone who does not appreciate ambient drones will not enjoy this album, as they are used much more frequently. The atmosphere is still characteristically one of loneliness and isolation, except that _Metamorphyses_ creates the sensation of being in an abandoned and empty warehouse in a dismal industrial section of town, while earlier releases evoked the sensation of stepping into a murky, centuries old cathedral.

This may not be Raison d'Être's best work, but like all his previous albums, it is nonetheless something that he can be proud of.
