Thralldom - _A Shaman Steering the Vessel of Vastness_
(Profound Lore, 2006)
by: T. DePalma (7.5 out of 10)
The moment Thralldom's storm-blasted edifice "The Mentu Dynasty" begins to chip away under the stress of ballism and abandoning feedback, trailing off in radiant beams evoking its namesake, may be the band's finest moment on record, but also their last. The third and final record from Killusion and Jaldagr collectively, burns away their chemistry through Floydian sweeps, crusty ork marches and ambient space embellished by an almost reel-to-reel-like decay ala "The Great Beast Speaks" -- that authentic warble replaced by smoke-scoured throat. Its legacy hovers between the Nineties boom and its post-fabrication, tying mysticism, electro-noise and hardcore into a terse, conglomerate aggression that reeks American in its desperate imagination and want of rapid escape. Alarming. And fuck it if it were anything less.
