Had Baalphegor released their sophomore effort a decade ago, the world would still be reeling. Hell, it's not unlikely that Girona would have been mentioned in the same hushed tones as Tampa Bay in certain circles. As it is, the Spanish quintet have turned in an impressive collection of ultra-technical, ultra-brutal death metal with _Post Earthquake Age_. The onslaught is relentless, and with the odd deviation from a formula Trey Azagthoth really should get patented, the likes of "Ansphina" and "Source of Energy" will stick in the back of your mind longer than most. But like Germany's Necrophagist, Baalphegor lay their sod in territory that's been run bare by a cornucopia of other acts just a little too often for _Post Earthquake Age_ to be classed as something truly exceptional. By the time the record has past five plays, the urge to devote time to it rather than, say, the new Suffocation is likely to dwindle all too rapidly.
