GWAR - _Blood Bath & Beyond DVD_
(DRT Entertainment, 2006)
by: Jackie Smit (4 out of 10)
Even before the advent of DVD, there were precious few acts who had been able to master the art of the entertaining long-form video -- save perhaps for the Antarctic scumdogs known as GWAR, who turned more than a few on to their metallic hi-jinx with releases like the infamous _Tour de Scum_. Sadly they don’t fare half as well here, and instead of gifting us with a properly recorded concert, we're subjected to ninety minutes worth of bootleg clips and archival footage, stretching back some twenty years. While it does have its odd moment (the _Hell-O_ medley proving especially enjoyable), the overall product is too puerile to be worth more than five minutes of anyone's time. The jokes aren't funny and what concert footage there is, is generally so badly recorded you may as well be watching it on a friend's mobile phone. Thus, all this eventually boils down to is a marathon of stupidity, minus any of the tunes which, particularly on the band's last two releases, have proven infinitely entertaining.
