With a moniker culled from a Tool record, the sceptics might opt to avoid this altogether on general principle. The last thing the world needs, after all, is another band attempting to recreate _Lateralus_. This is hardly the case with Germany's Undertow however. Now in their thirteenth year, their sound may hint to traces of Maynard Keenan's musical eccentricities from time to time, but over the course of the album's eleven songs, traditional and modern metal elements collide with a host of other influences, including the distinctive sludgecore sound of a certain New Orleans outfit. Indeed the comparisons to Crowbar become especially apparent on "Two Fingers" and "Hateriot". Yet _Milgram_ is far more than simply the sum of its influences, and on the strength of what's on offer here, you'd have expected that Undertow's latest effort is bound to bring a smile to the face of more than just the average Kirk Windstein fan.
