Ordo Tyrannis - _Vasa Iniquitatis_
(Flood the Earth, 2006)
by: T. DePalma (5 out of 10)
Ordo Tyrannis is the latest experimental sideshow of Black Funeral's Mike Ford, who has become even more marginalized since steering that project in the direction of techno-ambient black metal. Nevertheless, _Vasa Iniquitatis_ falls within similar boundaries. Ford (Akhtya Nachtotter) is joined by a Mr. Saint ov Gravediggers, who contributes vocals and lyrics (pen'd in poetic Middle English) to the labored wreckage of ten tracks. The sum of their partnership is a fair but uninspired dark-industrial album. Boasting a dismal ensemble of gnarled guitar lines, dissonant harmonics and contrived vocal orgasms, _Vasa Iniquitatis_ is the alchemical product of _Streetcleaner_ and Current 93's _Dog's Blood Rising_ -- but the first has already been copied far too much, and the second cannot be emulated without appearing silly.
