Disgrace and Terror combine a strong thrash sensibility with the less objectionable aspects of the melodeath movement, resulting in a surprisingly powerful album. _Shadows of Violence_ veers comfortably between the chugging rhythms of _Ride the Lightning_ era Metallica and melodies that could easily have been pilfered from the Gothenburg triumvirate, all imbued with a modern sensibility to prevent it from sounding dated. The vocals vary between a blackened snarl and a more generic death metal styled grunt -- neither are particularly special. Snare drums are a bit too prominent, but this is a frequent concern of many low budget and/or self-financed productions, and is by means unique to Disgrace and Terror. Speaking of production, it is not at all shabby, considering this is self-financed. Nonetheless, the song structures are fairly predictable and once the first few songs have been heard there are no real surprises. Although not the most groundbreaking of releases, a combination of raw talent and a passion for all things metallic and melodic suggests that greater things are within their grasp.
