Dissimulation - _Prakeikimas_
(Ledo Takas, 2005)
by: Pedro Azevedo (7 out of 10)
Somewhere between thrash and black metal, Lithuania's Dissimulation
return with _Prakeikimas_, a follow-up to their long awaited debut
_Maras_. The album starts in agile, energetic fashion, and upon first
listen instantly captured my interest more effectively than its
predecessor. However it soon reverts back to slower riffs that fail to
have as much impact, but that may be a matter of taste. Fortunately
there is a good enough mixture of styles throughout the album to keep
things interesting. Much like _Maras_, _Prakeikimas_ dispenses with
fancy melodies to concentrate fully on a succession of riffs designed
to keep metal heads banging; and Dissimulation certainly deserve
credit for being quite good at that. A slight improvement over its
predecessor in my view, enough to definitely justify a few spins --
and if this happens to be your genre of choice, _Prakeikimas_ should
be a perfectly safe bet.
