Benighted (Fra) - _Identisick_
(Adipocere, 2006)
by: Pedro Azevedo (7 out of 10)
Whatever is said about this album, I doubt anyone will call it monotonous. Not that it is some kind of avantgarde effort, far from that; it's just that the pace and vocals change at a higher rate than usual. _Identisick_ is quite a bit of a death metal onslaught too, pretty damn frantic for the most part, and will give its all to pummel your skull right in. At times _Identisick_ reminds me of the sort of barrage a band like Cryptopsy might throw at you, though on other occasions it tends to remain in much safer territory. On the reverse side of the coin, my main gripe with this record is that I find the ultra low pitched grunts rather annoying, but then that's only one part of the varied vocal delivery. Apart from that, the album rolls along nicely, despite a number of passages falling in the realm of the unremarkable. It's more the overall pace and enthusiasm that helps this album along than any great riffs, and the end result should be enjoyable enough for fans of the genre.
