Galerie Schallschutz - _Montauk Project_

83 copies of this here beast come as a handmade SAGE (that's Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) radar station. Meaning, the sole procreator of Galerie Schallschutz is either deadly serious about the conspiracy / sci-fi concept, or he just likes playing expensive jokes. Whatever the case, _Montauk Project_ both looks and -- even more importantly -- sounds solid.

A bit of explanation is required, so here goes: "Montauk Project" was a covert ultra-top-secret governmental project that took place during the 1970s and early '80s at an abandoned Air Force radar base located in the southeast tip of Long Island, New York. It is believed the base and the subterranean facilities were and still are used for a tremendous amount of top-secret, ultra-classified research and experimentation into interdimensional technology, quantum and particle physics, black hole simulation, super-powerful electrical and electromagnetic fields, weather control, psychotronics, particle beam technology, and both electronic and drug-based mind control.

If those UFO freaks from the "X-Files" series ever chose to delve into soundscapes, they would probably come up with something similarly entrancing and frightening as _Montauk Project_. This is droning ambient, noise industrial, not a bit aggressive but rather disturbing, unsettling and deeply atmospheric. With more than half the tracks reaching beyond the five minute mark, it is also a slow, taunting development of the nightmarish musical themes. It is probably inaccurate to call this "music", however; these are loops, manipulated sounds, pulsations, machine noises and some scarce percussion, put together and arranged as to test your mind and probably elevate it to higher planes of consciousness. (If you believe in such things, that is.) One of the better ambient albums I've come across for some time now, a real treat for the lovers of the CMI sound.
