This newest incarnation from Chicago's dubious rabble-rousers was formed out of the less-than-overexposed remnants of the '90s midwest outfits MindBomb and Pivot Man. Musically, well... How about some song titles? "Pookis", "Ditch Kitty", "Leather Messiah" and "Bitch @$$" simply must give you some idea of what we're dealing with here. Supermercado is energetic and enthusiastic, I'll give you that, even guitar laden and bombastically heavy in certain places. On the whole, however, Supermercado's stylistic direction is about as understandable as Massacre's Kam Lee doing Puccini's "La Boheme" during a NASA shuttle launch. Admittedly, maybe this wasn't the best introduction to Dark Star Records for me, so there remains hope. As for Supermercado, all that can be said is "whatever makes you happy"... That happiness for me, friends, is found forty-three minutes later after hitting the play button; talk about SCARY, Baby!
