With the likes of Murderdolls and HIM casting gothic glam back into its own fetid patch of the limelight, it's no surprise that others will follow suit. The Bronx Casket Co. is the brainchild of former Overkill bassist DD Verni, and musically sits squarely between the Alice Cooper-esque sleaze rock of Murderdolls and the urban goth of Type O Negative. This, for the most part, turns out to be a good thing, as songs like "Little Dead Girl" and "Sherimoon" have the depth to keep it miles away from the pop-tastic cack that Ville Valo and his cohorts dish up, while remaining playful enough not to succumb that the relentless self-pitying schlep that Pete Steele has been known to cook up from time to time. The band even throw in the odd surprise -- an epic nine-minute cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" providing a particularly interesting sojourn, although the church-bells and piano that play out the song would suggest that The Bronx Casket Co. won't be providing the soundtrack to a Hell's Angels funeral anytime soon.
