Madball - _Legacy_

Even by hardcore's typically staunch standards, Madball are quite a conservative band. In a sense, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, there are numerous examples of respected and beloved acts who have built solid reputations that are based squarely upon their refusal to show even the slightest hint of progression. Yet with so little to set _Legacy_ -- essentially a comeback album, given that Madball's last official full-length came out five years ago -- apart from 2000's _Hold It Down_, you have to guess that it's a record that will probably slip through underneath the radar more than anything else. It's especially true that you consider that Madball were never an especially distinct band to begin with. While guitarist Mitts can still peel the paint off a brick wall with riffs like the one that announces "For My Enemies" and Freddy Cricien still sounds as incensed as ever as he grandstands the NYHC virtues of honor, pride, loyalty and respect, when pared against the likes of Hatebreed, Since the Flood and even his older brother Roger Mire's recent work in Agnostic Front, _Legacy_ sounds old long before its time.
