When a band biography states that the band tries to "bury their gore and grind roots", I can't help but being suspicious. What, is Gorerotted going for the big money? Are they selling out? While the concept of a band in the extreme music corner selling out is somewhat ludicrous -- unless they decide to team up with the likes of Britney Spears --, in this case we're not that far from the truth. Compared to the outrageous gorefest that was Gorerotted's _Only Tools and Corpses_, _A New Dawn for the Dead_ is clean, straightforward and very basic. Gone are the zombie intros, gone are the weird sounds and vocals, gone is the underground feeling. With _A New Dawn for the Dead_, Gorerotted really does seem to have approached a new dawn. While most gore fanatics will abhor what has happened to this album, I have to admit having enjoyed the ride. The whole album seems to breathe an atmosphere of rock 'n' roll, Carcass or Misery Index style. The dual vocals are effective; the blastbeats unfortunately sound too thin in the mix; some of the riffing is brilliant and some if it is plainly not. What is left is an album by a band trying to reposition themselves as serious contenders in the death/grind niche. It manages to do so quite nicely, but doesn't stand out by any means.
