One has to cut Dez Fafara some slack. Sure the guy may have fronted one of the most widely reviled bands of the nu-metal era, but that was yesteryear. For the open-minded, Devildriver's debut in 2003 was a solid, if slightly simplistic, slab of testosterone-addled, groove-intensive metal that certainly was a far cry from the sniveling antics of Coal Chamber. _The Fury of Our Maker's Hand_ isn't necessarily an improvement on its predecessor, but it does present a number of significant advances in the band's sound, most notably the liberal use of melody. This is not a bad thing of course, particularly seeing as how songs like "End of the Line" and "Ripped Apart" are testimonies to the fact that a band can be tuneful without plagiarizing the In Flames back catalogue. With Dez delivering a vocal performance that smacks of enough pure piss and vinegar to lay a small village to waste, _The Fury of Our Maker's Hand_ is undoubtedly another step in the right direction for a band that you'd be foolish to simply ignore.
