Disgorge - _Parallels of Infinite Torture_
(Crash Music, 2005)
by: Xander Hoose (5 out of 10)
I've been waiting for a while to be able to make this remark about an album, and now I'm finally going to be able to say it! So here it comes: album title covers the contents. My well-respected colleague Aaron McKay reviewed an album called _Forensick_back in 2001 by a Mexican band called Disgorge (different from this Disgorge, who hail from the USA) and gave it a 3 out of 10. Main reason, I cite, "I honestly think I hear more rhythm from my neighbor's three year old kids playing cards in the spokes of his tires". While _Parallels of Infinite Torture_ is nowhere near as bad as that, there do seem to be some parallels. My biggest objection against this whole album is that it seems the band has lowered the volume of all the instruments except the vocals. You need to consciously shut the vocals away -- which requires quite some concentration -- to actually make out the music. "The music" being uninspired death metal, "the vocals" being pretty low grunts and growls that lack a bit of impact. _Parallels of Infinite Torture_ sounds uninspired, unexciting and, deadliest of all, unconvincing. Sorry to all you people walking around in Disgorge T-shirts (and I know there is a lot of you), but I can't seem to find the fun in this. Spend your money on the latest Nile album instead.
