End of Days - _Dedicated to the Extreme_
(Alvaran Records, 2005)
by: Jackie Smit (7.5 out of 10)
Holy ass-kickings! Did _Dedicated to the Extreme_ ever remind me of what the next Obituary album might sound like. That is, if Alan West decided to speed things up ever so slightly and ditch all but the faintest strain of their death metal influence in favour of some seriously chug-tastic hardcore. As it is, End of Days pack a hefty punch -- from the manic aggression of "Nothing but Disgust" to the climactic finale of "Turned to Death", this German quintet's debut is anything but decorous. So intense and convincing is the band's performance, in fact, that one could almost forgive the record's abject lack of variety, and one could even go as far as to overlook Kevin Otto's transparently repetitive vocal lines. I guess it just depends on how high your tolerance is for that sort of thing.
