Kryoburn - _Enigmatic Existence_
(Continental / Rawhead, 2005)
by: Pedro Azevedo (5 out of 10)
There are bands out there who are determined to be innovators, and bands who would rather emulate and attempt to build upon the work of others. While sometimes this distinction may be blurred, that is not the case with Kryoburn: simply mentioning Strapping Young Lad and Fear Factory goes a long way towards describing _Enigmatic Existence_. But if originality is so scarce, then how good are Kryoburn at what they do? Not bad at all. In fact they are even helped by a decent production job. There is nothing horribly wrong with their interpretation of the style, and they create some consistent -- though ultimately forgettable -- numbers throughout _Enigmatic Existence_. Having said that however, they are clearly not in the same league as SYL or FF, which is hardly surprising. The question that remains is whether you feel you need this album in your collection in addition to the original records that so clearly inspired it.
