Angst certainly try to live up to their name, considering just how much vitriol they spew forth on their half-hour debut _In Hoc Signo Vinces_. Fast-paced black metal with steady snarled vocals, decent guitar lines and a significant Immortal feel make up the album, which neither wastes time wandering about aimlessly nor overstays its welcome. The playing is acceptable, though not always very solid, while the production suits the style without excelling in any way. Simple but generally effective tremolo guitar leads alternate with crunchier riffing to continuously propel the album forward, ensuring things remain at a considerable level of intensity most of the time. Several sections are quite compelling, though not necessarily achieved through any kind of innovation, while others are just passable. Dynamic enough to remain engaging most of the time, _In Hoc Signo Vinces_ clearly deserves a chance from fans of the genre -- just don't look for originality here.
