Legion - _Awakened Fury_
(Ketzer Records / Neodawn Productions, 2002)
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 10)
If their name sounds vaguely familiar, it's most likely because they were in the metal news earlier this year when their drummer Dragu departed for the comparatively more lucrative pastures of Marduk. It is not surprising that Dragu was selected; the drumming here is a testament to his considerable ability. But a more likely reason that he was chosen was his familiarity with the Marduk style: this EP is little more then a thinly disguised attempt at emulating _Panzer Division Marduk_. Their imitation of Marduk even extends so far as the band name -- it can be no coincidence that they share a name with the Marduk vocalist! For someone who has never heard Marduk before, this will sound like a fast and furious black metal assault. To be fair, they can play their instruments and the songs are hardly the worst that I have heard. This does not change the fact that this remains a totally derivative release, unburdened by originality. Recommended for non-discerning black metal fans only.
