Sentenced - _Crimson_
(Century Media, 1999)
by: Paul Schwarz (8 out of 10)
Sentenced have been combining catchy, gothic and folk-style keyboards, acoustics and vocals with an exuberant metal backbone for nearly four years, and they have now honed this craft to a fine art. _Crimson_ sticks to the ribs of your brain, remaining to be remembered and fed off long after you stop listening to it. Once again Sentenced have made an undeniably enjoyable rock-style album, but, though I raved (maybe a little over-enthusiastically, looking back on it) about their last album _Frozen_ [CoC #33], things are now starting to wear just a tiny little bit thin, and rather soon Sentenced might be one of those bands who are predictably there with a release every few years, rather than really making a lasting impact with each individual album. That said, I still can't deny that _Crimson_ is a more-than-ordinarily-good album of its kind and that, for now, Sentenced have the power to draw listeners in and keep them hooked.
