Morgul have chosen to mix the modern and polished black metal sound of Dimmu Borgir or Emperor with violins, piano and even dance beats to attain a similar sound to Arcturus, with a distinct carnival-esque feel, at points. It is adventurous and varied, ranging from the monotonous pound of "Ragged Little Dolls" to the industrial crush of "Elegantly Decayed" and on to the final rage filled blast beats of "The Ghost", but it never really feels like Morgul are truly covering any new ground on a grand scale. Yes, they are crossing the boundaries of traditional black metal, but the gates have already been broken and Morgul are merely walking in the wake of other, greater bands. There is nothing that I picked up on _The Horror Grandeur_ which hasn't been done better on some other album by the likes of Dodheimsgard, Sigh or Arcturus.
