Jacob's Dream - _Jacob's Dream_
(Metal Blade, 2000)
by: Adrian Bromley (8 out of 10)
Woah?! I was at first a little taken aback by singer David Taylor's uncanny similarities to Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson. Too close, if you ask me. But also with a slight nod to Queensryche's screamer Geoff Tate and Rush frontman Geddy Lee, Taylor's voice manages to flutter within a very unique vocal body. Very versatile and extremely powerful. Taylor's vocals hit hard, pushed forward by passion and intensity, that being one of the stronger elements to Jacobs Dream. The music of this power/progressive metal outfit also shines with passion and complexity, rarely missing the mark as the quartet steamrolls through great sonic epics. This should be one of the best newcomers that 2000 offers, I'm sure of it. My favorite tracks include opener "Kinescope", "Scape Goat" and "Love & Sorrow". Feel the passion, follow this Dream.
