2 Ton Predator - _In the Shallow Waters_
(Diehard, 2000)
by: Paul Schwarz (6.5 out of 10)
As they are named based on the band's supposed fascination with creatures like the great white shark, I can bring myself to lay aside the cheesiness of 2 Ton Predator's chosen name without a great deal of effort. However, their distinct lacking in the originality department is harder to lay aside. Moshable groove metal is what we have come to expect out of Tue Madsen produced albums, and 2 Ton Predator defy no expectations in this respect. The heavy influence of America's finest whiskey swillin' Nawlins natives Down, Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity is more than evident, and nods towards fellow Danes Konkhra and depressive-but-brilliant grunge merchants Alice in Chains also mark _In the Shallow Waters_' musical tapestry. All in all, 2TP have produced a record which packs a considerable punch whilst also locking and loading some effectively ballady moments and occasional indulgent solos, but it is painful to hear a band's influences seemingly playing on their album, rather than merely influencing it.
