Power Symphony - _Evillot_
(Northwind / Radiation Recs., 1999)
by: Pedro Azevedo (3 out of 10)
Imagine a melodic power metal version of Bal-Sagoth's _Battle Magic_. Now add a remarkably weak instrumental sound and clear limitations as far as talent and ideas are concerned -- the only reasonably interesting idea featured here is the use of a lead female vocalist who performs normal melodic metal vocals. The music on _Evillot_ just tends to remind me of a simple, colourful and fragile plastic toy -- they need stronger production and much better ideas. They also definitely need to make their music become less transparent and obvious and give it much more depth and strength. Power Symphony's debut is also the first record to be released through the equally Italian based label Northwind Records (which will apparently be distributed by Nuclear Blast's Radiation Records); definitely not a promising start for them, but maybe things will improve in the future.
