Curimus - _Demo 2006_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
I have frequently complained that very short CDs and demos do not allow for an accurate evaluation of a band's sound -- more so when a particular release is mere 5:55! Nonetheless, I shall attempt to give the shortest demo I have ever received my best shot. (At least they attempt to mitigate the brevity with a video!)This is the first ever recording from these Finns, performing what could be considered as modern death metal: aggressive with a touch of melody (not too much -- there are more than enough bands imitating their cousins to the west!) and a smidgen of New World metalcore.Based on the evidence and the fact that this is their first ever recording, they are competent with their instruments, capable songwriters, and do not suffer from a severe production deficit. Yet what is created is less than the sum of the parts, and the two songs fail to have much of an impact on the listener, being a bit too sterile.
